Invisible Forces, 2019 Graphite and Mono-print drawing, 431 x 1220cm
The work developed from a fascination with the microscopic and natural world of fungi. Facts such as, spores remain in the ground, spread over vast ares and are regenerated through powerful but invisible forces given the right environmental conditions. My intention of this artwork was to show the beauty of natural life cycles by sketching uniquely authentic mushrooms as they grow. I have used a variety of visual language such as lines, textures, tones, composition and movement to create a panorama scene that appears life-like. Also, I grew mushrooms in my wardrobe in the Boarding house, took spore prints of the mature fungi, ate the produce and researched the variety of their forms, including through scientific diagrams of their parts and stages of growth.
